Eddie & Thor the battle of the giants - genuinely interesting or a snooze fest?

 This fight has divided the sport of strongman. Many strongman fans fairly blunt on their assessment of the Hafthor Bjornsson vs Eddie Hall boxing match. Most strongman fans are interested in the sport, to quite simply, watch super strong athletes lift unbelievably heavy objects. The sport of strongman has also, arguably, lost a potential great in Hafthor. His stature, strength and depth in the sport across events could have seen a new Big Z and hall of famer emerge. Laurence Shahlaei even suggested Thor could have been ‘one of the greatest of all time’. Eddie had always maintained his ultimate goal was to win WSM. Not multiple times, but once. Thor has commented that he will never compete at a Giants Live event again after the controversy of WSM 2017. That doesn’t rule him out of Arnold comps etc but does take him out of one of the sports pinnacle competitions. National Strongman / Strongwoman Bus Pull Championships results 2019

In one of the more unusual settings for a show Strongmen and strongwomen from as far away as Perth, Scotland, made there way down to Rotherham to South Yorkshire Transport Museum on Sunday. In a classic world strongman tv series event the crowd were treated to a an awe inspiring demonstration of strength as human power hauled buses down a 20 metre course. Man Beast strongman events, based in Doncaster ran the competition.  Andrew Picken founder commented ‘ we are testing the sport in different venues and agreed to this to help promote the museum and to access some amazing buses. It was a great event and we weren’t far off beating some world records'. Museum, Muscle and buses STOP in Rotherham. This Sunday a special event takes places in Rotherham. Instead of catching a bus strongmen and strongwomen athletes from across the country will take on the challenge of pulling buses using a harness and rope as fast as they can to win the title of ‘Man Beast Bus Pulling Championships 2019. This will take place in a museum – this is certainly an unusual competition venue that houses some of the country’s finest nostalgic vehicles from a by gone era. Paul Smith (former World’s strongest junior, 2019 Peak District Highland Games Champion and England’s strongest man 2016), Joe Bromiley Liverpool’s strongest man, Simon Knowles Yorkshire’s strongest man 2017 and Doncaster’s strongest man are amongst some of the big names taking part. ROTHERHAM HIGHLAND GAMES 2019 REPORT AND RESULTS Added on as a special event to the existing Yorkshire’s strongest man especially for the 40 th anniversary of the Rotherham show fans were treated to some brand new test of strength events in the form of the Highland games. Complete with kilts. This included traditional Highland games events such as the caber toss, stone throw, stone carry and our new event the mace throw. Thrown into the mix were 2 classic strongman events the 18 stone log press and the near 50 stones (300kg) deadlift hold. Athletes came far and wide. PEAK DISTRICT HIGHLAND GAMES 2019 REPORT AND RESULTS A crowd of around 2000 fans packed out Matlock farm park to see some of the country’s leading strongmen take on 6 gruelling events based around the Highland Games and world strongman events. Athletes such as Paul Smith, a world level competitor with multiple world records and of Scott Mark Litchfield – two times Peak District Highland Games Champion here to defend his title. A partisan crowd created an electric atmosphere and see first-hand what these strongmen can do with some incredible weights shifted about. Peak District Highland Games Preview Report Peak District Highland Games  PREVIEW Amongst the rolling hills of Derbyshire and the rising Peaks of this fascinating landscape there is a storm brewing up. A storm which includes some of the UK’s and regions strongest men preparing to do battle for the coveted title of the Peak District Highland Games Champion 2019.
