YORKSHIRES STRONGEST MAN ROTHERHAM SHOW 2018

On a mainly dry day, Clifton park Rotherham played host to Yorkshire’s strongest man - a title gaining more credibility in the sport. And besides who wouldn’t want to hold the title of Gods own county.

On the day, two weight categories took place, the smaller under 105kg in bodyweigth competitors – that’s 16 and a half stone to me and you and the opens category, or heavyweights which is anything above 16.5 stone.

The events were the car carry, Conans wheel, Frame Hold, monster dumbbell press and World strongest man favourite the atlas stones.

With Paul Smith, the World’s strongest junior 2017 and England’s strongest man 2016 in attendance as referee and two times Guinness World Record Holder Mark Anglesea the competition was overlooked to world class standards.

The specially adapted car provided by manimal strongman was the first event as the competitors wowed the crowds picking the car up and walking with it for 20 metres as fast as they could. The car weighed a staggering 300kg (47 stones) and 330kg (51 stones)!

The second event was to the conans wheel which had competitors walking as far as they could holding a weight off the ground which weighed 28 stones and 34 stones.

The giant dumbbell weighed in at 9 and 11 stones, frame hold 36 and 40 stones in weight and the atlas stone an eye watering 22 stones and 25 stones. Remember the atlas stone has no handles and consists of a solid round shape which makes it hard to grip and lift.



Three previous under 105kg competitors made the step up to the opens to take on the big boys with Mark Pearson taking third and Matthew Frost taking 2nd place to man mountain Mark Jeanes. 

Mark who was previously Wales strongest man performed consistently in every event to secure the victory. Michael Davies also coming in 5th position out of a field of 8.

In the under 105kg body weight category Nathan Szuchnik took the win with Chris Proctor second and Glen Cutler in third position.

On a weekend of unpredictable weather at Clifton Park Rotherham Show the rain didn't manage to stop Yorkshire's strongest man under 105 kg and opens competition where the title did indeed swap hands. With a series of strength events designed to test mental and physical strength the crowd were treated to some classic World strongman events including the atlas stones for repetitions to end the competition with. Judged by England's strongest man Phil Roberts and the World's NEW strongest Junior Paul Smith both from Sheffield, the competitors knew they were being watched by some of the best in THE sport - raising their game with some personal bests and heavy lifts. On the 27 th January 2018 Giants live will be running the annual ‘Britain’s strongest man competition’ at the Fly DSA arena Sheffield. It will give fans the chance to meet the UK’s first World’s strongest man since Sheffield’s very own Jamie Reeves.
