Peak District Highland Games  Report and Results– Matlock 26th August 2018

Most of us love watching strongmen as they don our TV sets at Christmas. From lifting cars to pulling buses and trucks, what these guys can do is pretty phenomenal. In 2017 the strongman came to Matlock Farm park where they competed in the Peak Districts first ever Highland Games. And in 2018 they are back!

Run by Man Beast Strongman events (Doncaster) in conjunction with Matlock Farm Park, National and regional strongman will descend on the Peak District to battle it out across another 5 brutal events. This will include Giant log press (weight 23 stone), stone carry (30 stones in weight), bus pull, caber toss and stone throw for distance.

Two times Guinness World Record Holder Mark Anglesea is refereeing the event on the day. Amongst those competing are Yorkshire’s current strongest man Simon Knowles – standing at 6 feet 5 inches tall, crowd favourite Ashton ‘the bear’ Reid – England’s Strongest Junior 2nd place JUKSM, 2nd place Strongbeach World Championship.

The events include a giant log press, double decker bus pull, stone carry, caber toss and stone throw requiring brute strength, technique and speed.

Andrew Picken, Man Beast Founder, said ‘ This is a competition that has a real sense of the Highland Games, with full bagpipes from the phoenix bagpipe band, kilts and Highland Games events mixed with classic strongmen events, that really get the crowd going.

Our athletes have fun with the events, but be rest assured when it comes to winning the title they are sure to give it their all making for a great spectacle’.

Allan Finlay, spokesperson from Matlock Farm Park, said ‘we are very proud to be the hosts of the Peak District Highland Games once again. It is incredible to watch these amazing feats of strength the competitors have to face throughout the day. The friendly atmosphere of the competition simply compliments a day out at our farm park.
